  • How to Adapt to the new life in China Quickly?

How to Adapt to the new life in China Quickly? If you study abroad, you may suddenly enter a strange environment with differences in many factors such as language, culture and environment. So all these differences may make you feel helpless, and you may feel lonely in a distant place for such a long time. Generally speaking, it is a very long process for overseas students to study abroad. How do we adapt to the life of studying abroad quickly so as to get rid of the discomfort? It is required to know about the living habits well before studying abroad. According to the authority leader from the institution of studying abroad, the minimum period for adapting to the life abroad is generally half a year or even two years. It becomes a key point in the life of studying abroad that how to get through the “period for adaptation” in a smooth and stable manner. The in adaptation in the first half of the year after studying abroad results from the differences in culture and lifestyles of the two countries. That’s why we need to know about the detailed information of the foreign countries as much as possible before going abroad, such as the culture and history, how to borrow books in the library and how to take a bus. The more you get to know, the better prepared you will be. The more you understand, the smoother your life in the future will be. If you study abroad in a foreign country and want to adapt to the local life as quickly as possible, you can know about the aspects as follows: First of all, you can watch the movies, TV series and other video works reflecting the culture of the country, which is a faster way for the great majority of young people to quickly know about the local culture. For example, if you want to study in Chinese, it is recommended that you should watch the excellent video works about China in the recent two years. Without doubt, watching the variety shows is another faster way to understand the local culture quickly, which will strengthen the language practice as well. Secondly, it is necessary to read the books, newspapers and periodicals reflecting the national culture. The first category is a book for training of spoken English, the second category is a book in both English and Chinese and the third one is a book to introduce the culture of China. Surely, you can also know about the Chinese culture on various media and social platforms, including Baidu, Zhihu, Google and Facebook, etc. It is necessary to have the ability to live independently in an unfamiliar place. First of all, it is necessary to have certain communication skills. This doesn’t mean that you are required to speak Chinese fluently. As long as you are cheerful and dare to speak out, you can communicate with others through gestures without any barriers even though you can only say a few simple sentences, such as hello and goodbye. Secondly, it is necessary to cultivate the ability to solve the problems. Leaving home and studying abroad means you cannot depend on your parents any longer, for example, you need to learn to wash your clothes by yourself, buy food in the dining hall, study and shop independently and try to solve all the problems you are faced with. Of course, this does not mean that you have to shoulder all the problems by yourself when you are faced with a problem that fails to be solved. Solving the problems independently includes asking others for help to solve the problem as well. Thirdly, you should have a sense of responsibility and be a responsible person in order to be independent. It is required for you to understand the responsibilities you will bear for others, including yourself, family members, friends, teachers and classmates, etc. No matter what you do, you should shoulder the responsibilities for the things you do, which is necessary for a man with truly independent spirit. In addition, it is necessary to welcome the new life with an open, inclusive, positive and optimistic heart. As we all know, studying abroad may not be like “Opening up a brand new life with expectations every day.” as a lot of overseas students imagine. Difficulties may come out at any time. Therefore, the overseas students must stick to the positive energy in their hearts, adjust their mentality in a timely manner and adapt to the life continuously. Just as the old saying says, “There is no place like home”, this saying tells the true feelings of most overseas students. However, the only way to cultivate and improve the independence and adaptability is to face it actively. Meanwhile, the loneliness that overseas students often feel is caused by the differences in language barriers and living habits. Thus, it is very necessary to cultivate a hobby in the country first. This hobby will attract your attention apart from the study after you are going abroad, which will weaken the thoughts and loneliness. At the very beginning when you reach an unfamiliar place, you may face many different situations each day. Just as the saying goes, “When you are in Rome, do as the Romans do”, it is necessary for you to follow the customs, respect and tolerate the differences in different culture. An open heart is necessary for you to look at the new things. In addition, we also need to go out to enjoy and find out the beauty of these differences.
